As this Hawaii map makes evident, the state is a patchwork of varying geography spread out over an archipelago of 132 islands of every size and shape. These tiny flecks that make up a Hawaii map dot the Pacific ocean nearly halfway between the mainland US and Japan, in a line arcing more than 1,500 miles across. The vast majority of its 1.2 million people, however, inhabit just six main islands - Oahu (where the capital of Honolulu is located), Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii - easily spotted on this Hawaii map in the easternmost part of the vast island chain. Of those, Hawaii is the largest and most diverse, with climates ranging from tropical rainforest to snow-capped mountains. Many tourists visit Maui, Oahu, and Kauai, the next largest islands on the Hawaii map, while tiny Lanai and Molokai receive people from all over looking for a little peace and quiet. A two-dimensional Hawaii map, however, does little to convey the individual attributes of each island destination - Hawaii is truly a multi-faceted Shangri-la waiting to be discovered in person.
